As an entrepreneur myself, I know all about the highs and lows. I’ve also been lucky enough to be exposed to many different sectors – always enjoying being hands-on and solving practical business challenges. I am a very experienced and seasoned practitioner in business and Management Accounting. I started his working life as a cost clerk for Needle industries, before gaining wide experience and knowledge of different businesses and sectors. This included leading the management team of a small business through from significant debts to profitability and eventually a successful retirement sale. I also the family business – a car repair garage and MOT testing station. Over seven years I managed to turn it round from a scary level of debt to making money, investing in new equipment, paying dividends and eventually leading a successful retirement sale. My final position before founding my own business, Millstone Partners Ltd was that of Group Management Accountant for a group of five companies with a combined turnover of £5 million. I have over 30 years of practical, hands-on experience and expertise in business challenges, solutions and processes. I enjoy nothing more than liberating clients of their mundane accounting jobs.
Away from the office, I am a rugby fanatic.
I have worked in a variety of senior finance and management accounting roles for major organisations including National Grid, Massey Ferguson and OpenAccounts – a leading accounting software and consultancy company. I attended Warwick University and have a degree in Economics. I have experience both as an accountant, and teaching accountants. I have previously taught accountancy and business at Halesowen college, where I worked for over 10 years.
My areas of expertise are:
analysing, improving and setting up accounting and finance systems, and
Excel and Sage for management reporting.
In my spare time I enjoy watching musicals in the west end. I also like to spend my spare time going on walks in the woods and on the beach with my family and my two dogs!
Senior Assistant Accountant
I am the eldest, though not necessarily wisest, member of the Millstone team.. I have a background in the finance sections of large organisations such as Royal Mail, Midlands Electricity Board and Sandwell Council. Having been made redundant by Sandwell council I decided to use my experience and get a formal qualification in finance. I studied AAT at Halesowen College and passed level 4 in 2013 and became a full AAT member. I have worked in an accountancy practice as an accounts and tax assistant and now have a multi-functional role within Millstone Partners.
In am a gadget nut and am always looking out for new technology. I also enjoy pub quizzes and watching my teenage son play cricket.

In my free time, I love walking my dogs and cooking.
I have a background in teaching and spent many years teaching chemistry and maths. Alongside my role teaching those two subjects, I worked in the SEN department of the school. My role at Millstone Partners is collating all the information and processing data.
My experience as a teacher enables me to bring an eye for detail and a different perspective to the business.
In my spare time I love watching my son play football and I am a keen "dissectologist", and you can usually find me putting together a jigsaw over a cup of tea!
My main role is to keep team moral up! (and security...)
